Martial Arts Carolina
Special Events

Karate College Mr. Butchka took a small group from Martial Arts Carolina to Karate College in Radford, Virginia. It was about a 3 hour drive up into the mountains, beautiful country. We started with classes Thursday night. Friday brought classes starting at 8 A.M. and ending at 9 P.M. By the time we had dinner and drug our tired bodies back to our rooms everyone hit the bed within a few minutes. Saturday morning we were all up early and eager to start a new full day of learning. We were being taught by legends that we had seen in movies and on TV and read about in magazines but never once thought about being in the same room with them and having them instruct use on the proper stance, side kick, punch or joint lock. If you get a chance talk to Mr. Butchka, Mr. Burdette, or Michaela Hutchinson about Karate College. Plan to go next year. It is an experience you won't forget.

Bartlett Family Care

Board Break A Thon

Martial Arts Carolina held a Board Break A Thon on March 7th, 2009 for the Bartlett Family Care Fund. There were tons of boards to break and Seth Jones made it his personal goal to break everyone that he could. There were front kicks, sidekicks, knife hands, palm heels flying thru boards. Mr. Hutchinson took on a challenge to break 20 boards in 15 seconds. Allowing for a board holder malfunction he made it in the allotted time and was on Fox News for his effort. Below are some picture from the Board Break A Thon. I'll add more pictures as I get them.

Kicks and Crafts
12/13/2008

Martial Arts Carolina held its Kicks and Crafts event this past Saturday, December 13th.  It lasted for four hours and gave parents across the school a wonderful gift of time.  We had about 20 kids in total and included students of the school, friends and some very special young siblings.  What a joy to see a couple of our Martial Arts Carolina students taking care of and introducing Martial Arts to their younger brothers.

While at the event - the kids enjoyed an exciting and challenging Martial Arts class, made some very cool crafts, enjoyed snacks and a movie - and to top it all off - a special visit from Santa Claus!  Each child got to sit on Santa's lap, go over their wish list, had a picture made and received a very special letter from Santa.

Needless to say - a great time was had by all!!!

Combat Hapkido Clinic
High Point, NC
08/23/2008
Several members of the Martial Arts Carolina family went to a Combat Hapkido Clinic in High Point, NC. The event was hosted by Holt Williford at Triad Martial Arts. The clinic started with hand trapping. This the most basic moves of the the Combat Hapkido system but is what the rest is built on. We moved from hand trapping to defenses against punches. Next we learned the defenses against stick attacks. The techniques were very effective. Knife defenses were the last for the day.

Duty & Honor
A Day of Defense
07/26/2008
The Second Annual Anniversary Clinic was held Duty & Honor was the theme the Day of Defense Clinic. The clinic started with a member of the FBI's Cyber Crimes Task Force. He gave us a presentation that covered sexual predators online, cyber stalking, identity theft, phishing, and scams. Everyone that attended came away with lots of useful information. The clinic this year was divided into three groups men, women, and youth. Mr. Drillings worked with the youth. Mr. Butchka and Mr. Stickney worked with the men. Mrs. Hutchinson and Mr. Burdette worked with the women. Each group had a curriculum designed just for them. After training separately the groups were brought back together for stick, gun and knife self defense. The clinic ended with a 30 minute cardio blast that consisted of 4 stations. The stations were crunches/planks, squats, pushups and wrestling move of escaping from guard. The day was loaded with information but not so much that you had information overload. The beginner had useful techniques that they could add to their defensive tool box. The intermediate were able to refine what they had learned before. The advance learned how to make what they already knew more effective. It was a great clinic filled with people ready to learn and instructors that shared their knowledge.

Defensive Arts Clinic 12/01/2007 Master Landaas arrived Saturday to test Mr. Hutchinson for his 3rd Degree in Combat Hapkido. Later he was the instructor for our Defensive Arts Clinic. The main objective of this clinic was what to do after you've blocked the punch that was thrown at you. I'm sure everyone learned some valuable techniques. Check out some of the pictures take during the clinic. Be sure to thank Mr. Howard for being "Pedro" for the clinic. He absorbed a lot of strikes so we could see the proper technique. Thanks.
